Karolina Malinowska is a Polish director and screenwriter based in London. She made her first short film, Check, in Edinburgh — an award-winning start that sparked her love for filmmaking. She went on to graduate from the Sydney Film School in Australia, then spent years working as a 1st and 2nd assistant director alongside her own projects, picking up further credits and awards in AD, production design, and cinematography.

She directed at international workshops — the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab at Toei Studios in Japan, Short Waves in Poznań, and Kino Moscow in Moscow — and also graduated from the London Film Academy and FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague), where she earned an MA in Directing and Screenwriting. She also completed a Writers Residency at the Ucross Foundation and trained under Hungarian director Béla Tarr at the International Filmmaking Academy in Bologna.

She has worked on nearly 40 film, art, and music productions across Australia, Japan, Croatia, Germany, Russia, Poland, and the UK.

At the heart of it all is a director drawn to the uncanny — building bold, unforgettable images that stay with an audience long after the screen fades to black.
